In 1975 Denis-Plants bvba was created by René DENIS. This new company was the result of the takeover of the family company, which main activity was the cultivation of a big sortiment of 15 different indoor pot plants (Philodendron, Ficus, Aechmea, Marantha…). The culture happened from seed to finished product, which resulted in very irregular availability of plants. 

 

Shortly after the takeover, Denis-Plants switched to a mono-culture of Schefflera, whereby an efficient planning, production and marketing strategy was made. During the following years the company enhanced through a further specialization and multiplication of Schefflera.

 

In order to professionalize the company and further optimalisation of the multiplication of young plants, René Denis invested in state-of-the-art glass houses with the following new progressive techniques: total water-recirculation, energy saving materials and optimal climate control.

 

As from 1987, in vitro technology was more frequently adapted and Denis-Plants became a large weaning company. The glasshouse expanded to 10.000 square meters and produced every year approximately 7 milion plants.

Apart from the Calathea – species, in which Denis-Plants became a world market leader, Spathiphyllim, Cordyline were hardened together with a wide range of perennials such as Geranium, Bergenia, Heuchera, Hosta, Helleborus…

 

Through continuous investing in highly qualified personnel, new eco-friendly culture methods and non-stop research, Denis-Plants became a leading youngplant company. First international steps were initiated as from 1990 through visits and exports resulting in a large footprint in foreign countries (e.g. Japan).

 

The position of the company was confirmed by winning international presence and several awards. These awards are a constant recognition of the investments in R&D and production techniques together with universities and other institutions. The last award was received in 2011 whereby Denis-Plants was awarded as cultivator of the year in Flanders and represented our region on the international awards.
